Sign Language Brings People Together

Walnut Public Library is excited to offer Sign Language Classes starting in January 2026.

Millions of people all over the world are either deaf or hard of hearing and they rely on sign language to communicate with others. Chances are, at some point, you will meet one or more of these people. If you have ever thought about learning beginners sign language, this is a great opportunity to start. This is a 4 part series with all classes being held on Saturdays from 10-11 am at The Rock Community Building in Walnut,

Meet our Instructor, Carolyn Jones: Carolyn holds a bachelor’s degree in Deaf & Hard of Hearing from MacMurray College and spent seven years teaching students with hearing
impairments. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Illinois State University and worked as a Learning Behavior Specialist, supporting special education students in that role through 2018. Carolyn went on to complete a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Aurora University. She currently serves as a Special Education Coordinator for the Bureau-Marshall-Putnam Tri-County Cooperative, where she continues to support special education students and staff while workingwith the Bureau Valley and Midland school districts. Outside of work, Carolyn is a proud mom of two boys; one is a chef, and the other is attending Illinois State University to become a social worker. She enjoys reading, sewing, gardening, crafting, and DIY projects.
