Library Space Update

Library Patrons,

I received notice today that our construction timeline has been moved up to February! This is wonderful news! I will share information after details are finalized over the next few days. I anticipate the basement level of the library to be closed to the public beginning the first week of February and remain closed for 8-10 weeks.

We will have an area sectioned off upstairs for children’s items and books. If you or your child have specific books or a series they would like to be brought upstairs please notify staff at the library over the course of the next week. Bring your children in and let them pick a handful of favorites to bring upstairs. Once the selection is picked the remaining books will be temporarily boxed until the contractors are finished with their work.

Over the course of the next week I will be working with a space design team member from one of our supplier companies, finishing up our shelving order.. As you may remember from previous updates we will also have new chairs, a lego table, and STEM workstation areas that will be arriving after our construction is complete. Most of these items were made possible by the Transforming Library Spaces grant we received this fiscal year.

I would like to hear from our community over the course of the next week. If you have an idea of something you would like to see in our children’s library, I encourage you to share. I will be looking at multiple factors over the next week while we finalize our floor design. While we may not be able to incorporate all ideas your feedback will be added to our vision and factored into future growth. Have you visited another library and found something you would love to have here? This is the time to share your ideas, thoughts, and creativity. I have so many ideas for the children’s area but I would love to incorporate yours as best as we can. This is your space, a space for our youth, and for future generations.

I would like to thank our community members who have monetarily donated to the library and those that have specifically donated towards the construction project. We are grateful to have your support. Through your donations, we are able to move forward with this project, and provide replacement shelving units for our children’s library. Each donation is being used as specified when donated.

I encourage you to stop in the library over the next few days to ask questions, visualize space, and provide feedback. You may also email me at director.wpld@yahoo.com, message the library page, call or comment on this post. Thank you for your continued support as we move forward.

Sincerely,

Jaclyn Trujillo

Director
